And the best part? Your kids don’t have to sit still or “behave perfectly” to get beautiful images.

Why South Haven is perfect for family photos

South Haven is one of my favorite spots along Lake Michigan for a reason.

Between the wide open beaches, the iconic pier, and those glowy sunsets… it’s such an easy, beautiful setting for families — especially if you have little ones.

Popular spots like South Beach and North Beach offer:

• Plenty of space for kids to run and play
• Soft, neutral tones that photograph beautifully
• Easy access for families staying nearby

And if you’re near the South Haven Lighthouse, it adds the prettiest coastal backdrop to your photos too.

What a beach session with me actually looks like…

If you’re picturing trying to get your kids to sit still and smile at the camera the whole time… don’t worry — that’s not how I do things 🤍

My sessions are:

• Child-led
• Playful
• Laid-back

We’ll walk along the beach, let your kids explore, play little games, and capture real moments as they happen.

The goal is photos that feel like your family, not stiff or overly posed.

When is the best time for photos in South Haven?

Short answer: sunset (always ✨)

That soft, golden light right before the sun dips below the water is what gives you those warm, glowy, dreamy images you see all over Pinterest.

During the summer, this usually means:

• Sessions starting around 7:30–8:30pm

I know that can feel late with little ones — but I promise, it’s worth it. And I always keep things moving and fun so kids stay engaged.

(And if needed, we can always adjust timing slightly based on your family!)

What to wear for your South Haven beach session
This is one of the biggest stress points for moms — so I’ve got you 🤍

For beach sessions, I always recommend:

• Neutrals (creams, whites, soft pastels)
• Flowy dresses for moms
• Simple, comfortable outfits for kids

Try to avoid:

• Neon colors
• Busy patterns
• Logos/graphics

The goal is soft, timeless, and cohesive — so your photos feel effortless and not distracting.

What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

Michigan weather loves to keep us on our toes 😅

If the forecast isn’t looking great, I always:

• Keep an eye on it leading up to your session
• Make a call the day before or day-of
• Offer rescheduling options if needed

Cloudy skies can actually be beautiful, but if it’s stormy or super windy, we’ll adjust!
