I’m a wife, mama x3, and lifestyle photographer based in Northwest Indiana. Most days you’ll find me with a coffee in hand, chasing toddlers, editing in cozy clothes, or dreaming up my next creative shoot.
I specialize in capturing families, motherhood, love stories, and all the beautiful chaos in between. So, the real-life, giggle-filled, messy, magical moments you’ll want to hold onto forever. I’m all about photos that feel like you: honest, warm, and full of connection.
Whether we're laughing through a family session or documenting a milestone, I promise to show up with patience, heart, and a little bit of silliness (especially if it helps your kids smile). I can’t wait to tell your story.

As a family photographer in South Haven, I hear this question all the time: “What should we wear!?”
The good news is that choosing outfits for your beach family photos doesn’t have to be stressful. With a few simple tips, you can create a coordinated look that feels natural, timeless, and beautiful against the stunning backdrop of Lake Michigan.
Whether you’re visiting South Haven for a family vacation or you’re a local family wanting updated portraits, here’s everything you need to know about what to wear for beach family photos.

Your outfits play a huge role in the overall look and feel of your images. The right colors and clothing choices help keep the focus on your family while complementing the natural beauty of the beach.
Beach sessions tend to have a light, airy, and relaxed feel. Choosing outfits that match that vibe will help create photos that look timeless for years to come.
The goal isn’t to match perfectly—it’s to coordinate in a way that feels effortless and natural.

When planning your outfits, I recommend choosing soft, neutral tones that complement the sand, water, and sunset colors.
Some of my favorite colors for beach family photos include:
These colors photograph beautifully against the shoreline and create a cohesive look without feeling overly styled.
One of my favorite combinations is a mix of creams, soft blues, and light tans. These colors work well together and perfectly reflect the relaxed atmosphere of a South Haven beach session.

While there are no strict rules, there are a few things I generally recommend avoiding:
Bright neon shades can reflect unwanted color onto skin tones and often pull attention away from the people in the image.
Large logos, graphics, and text on clothing can be distracting in photographs and may make images feel dated more quickly.
While this was once a popular family photo trend, it can feel a bit outdated. Instead, choose complementary colors that work together without everyone wearing the exact same outfit.
Small florals or subtle patterns can work beautifully, but too many bold patterns competing with each other can make photos feel visually overwhelming.

As a family photographer in South Haven, moms are usually the first person I help when choosing outfits.
My biggest recommendation? Choose something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Flowy dresses photograph beautifully on the beach because they move naturally in the breeze and add softness to your images.
Some great options include:
Comfort matters. If you’re constantly adjusting straps, tugging at fabric, or worrying about your outfit, it will show in your photos.
Choose something that feels like you.

Dads don’t need anything complicated.
Simple is usually best.
A neutral button-down shirt, henley, or solid-colored polo paired with khaki shorts or neutral pants works wonderfully for beach sessions.
Soft blues, creams, grays, and earth tones tend to photograph especially well near the water.
Most importantly, wear something comfortable enough to sit, walk, play with the kids, and enjoy the session.

Kids tend to shine when they’re comfortable.
For girls, flowy dresses, rompers, and simple outfits in soft colors work beautifully.
For boys, neutral shorts paired with a simple button-up or solid-colored shirt are always a great choice.
Beach sessions often involve exploring the shoreline, walking through the sand, snuggling with parents, and playing near the water. Comfortable clothing helps children stay happy and relaxed throughout the session.

If I could give just one piece of advice, it would be this:
Choose outfits that allow your family to move.
The best beach family photos aren’t perfectly posed. They’re often the moments in between—the laughter, the cuddles, the walks along the shoreline, and the way your kids naturally interact with you.
When everyone feels comfortable, those genuine moments happen naturally.
That’s where the magic is.
