Being a photographer located in Michiana is so nice because it means I get to go to New Buffalo, Michigan and head to the beach often! Typically, I always aim for sunset if possible. If the Michigan sky allows it and we have clear skies, you’ll get to see the sun setting right behind families during their family photoshoot and the colors change. This session specifically, with the Mullins family, we had a beautiful pink and purple sunset. But first, we started with some orange sun.
Sibling photos
I find every sibling duo is different! Some love to kiss, cuddle, hug. Some are just like “yeah, how bout we don’t even look at each other for these pictures, ok?” LOL
Thankfully – these two are still so young, they are still in the “i’m ok with tickling and kisses still” stage. So I take advantage of that for some cute photos during our photo session!
New Buffalo, Michigan Beach truly offers so much variety for photography when you’re out on the beach! As long as you’re ok with venturing through the sand, we can usually always hit a lot of different spots here.
I love utilizing some of the grass here for some variety! Plus, it gives us a little more time to make our way down by the water for the last part of sunset, which typically is the most colorful.

During family photo sessions with me, I always let the kiddos lead the sessions! Especially children under the age of 5/6 – I know they may not want to sit still and smile the entire session. In fact, I know for sure most of them won’t! All of my sessions are relaxed and slow paced. As a Mom to young children myself, I 100% understand that there may be times when kids cry, run away, say no. I understand we may need a small break, or sing songs, or bribe with candy. Whatever it may be! I’m here to help.

Here are a few images after we headed down to be closer to the water! As you can see, the sky is more colorful and beautiful as the sun sets. Just another reason I love photographing families in New Buffalo, Michigan. <3
As you can see as well, the water in Lake Michigan was extremely low this evening. This left a few little islands of sand for us to utilize. I thought this was so cool, as I had never had this happen during photoshoots here before!
And last but not least, we have blue hour! This came after our beautiful purple sunset. The moon popped out and as we were walking back to our cars, I turned back to Breanna (mom) and said “how about a few more, on the rocks, under the moon?” and I am SO glad I did!
